Sea Moss Gel Recipe

Recipe for 1 oz dry sea moss

  • Rinse the sea moss thoroughly to remove ocean debris. Place the sea moss in a bowl of water, rub and agitate the strands to further remove sand. You may have to repeat a few times until the water in the bowl is clear
  • Discard the water, rinse the sea moss, then completely cover it with water in a bowl. Soak for 4-6 hrs. (Sea moss can be soaked overnight and does not need to be refrigerated while soaking)
  • Sea moss will expand and appear partially translucent and white in color.
  • Drain the water and give the sea moss a final rinse.
  • Blend the sea moss with ½ cup of distilled or alkaline water
  • Blend until smooth or gradually add more water for a thinner gel.

Refrigerated the sea moss gel immediately and use for up to 2-3 weeks. Take 1-2 tablespoons of the gel daily up to 2 times a day, or add it to your juices, shakes, salads, yogurts, soups, stews, ice cream, smoothies, or coffee. It works well as a thickening agent and as a substitute for eggs in vegan recipes.

Optional: Add 1/2 lemon juice to preserve shelf life.

To prepare 2 ounces of dry sea moss gel, repeat the recipe but add 1 cup of water instead of 1/2.
